Caroline Ellison served as the CEO of Alameda Research. She has testified in a trial about fraud allegations against her and her ex-partner, Sam Bankman-Fried.

The case in question is a high-profile one. Caroline Ellison was romantically involved with Bankman-Fried. Caroline happens to be one of three close associates of the Fried, who has admitted their guilt.

She was closely worked with the former billionaire whose connections to the fraud case has been clearly established. Now, the members of the billionaire’s inner circle is cooperating with the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s office to provide information on the trial.

Ellison’s testimony gives a clear account of how funds worth billions of dollars was diverted from FTX customers. These funds were all customer investments. But Alameda Research diverted these investments to repay its creditors.

Prosecutors in the trial have held that allege that Bankman-Fried misappropriated FTX customer funds. Instead, they used it illegally to repay Alameda’s debts. The research organization also carried out purchase of real estate with that money. Reports show that a major part of the funds went into contributions made to political candidates in the United States. The political move was to increase the company’s influence in Washington.

Bankman-Fried decided to plead not guilty to these claims. His legal representation holds that these illegal activities were merely errors. Fried apparently never intended to embezzle funds.
