Adept Columbia Judge DeAndrea Benjamin Nominated By Biden To Fourth Circuit Court Of Appeals

A long-serving judge in the Fifth Circuit Court Of Appeals, Benjamin has been nominated to serve in one of the highly esteemed Courts of the land, the Fourth Circuit Court located in Richmond, Virginia. 

The Fourth Circuit Court is among the thirteen appellate courts of the land. With a stand just a step under the Supreme Court. 

Fifteen Judges can be elected from the states of Maryland, Virginia, North and South Carolina. Judge Quattlebaum and Richardson are set to be joined by Judge Benjamin, the third Judge from South Carolina. 

Benjamin is the second judge of African-American origin nominated to a federal court of appeals. This is a result of Biden’s efforts to bring diversity into the justice system.

James E. Clyburn, a representative from the state of South Carolina has called Benjamin an excellent jurist and a tremendous addition to the fourth circuit bench. The democrat from Columbia held that judge Benjamin, with her experience, will be a perfect match for the position. 

A Columbia High School graduate, she graduated from Winthrop University. She passed out of South Carolina Law School in the year 1997. Benjamin then worked as an assistant state attorney general. She has also worked as a prosecutor in the family court of the Fifth Circuit Solicitor’s Office. 

Judge Benjamin is duly set to be vetted by the Senate Judiciary Committee before she is seated as a judge on the Fourth Circuit.
